Even if you don't see clinical symptoms of salt or trace mineral deficiency, your livestock may perform below expectations in growth, reproduction, lactation and disease resistance. Pasture and even formulated feeding regimes cannot always be relied upon to provide adequate levels of salt and trace minerals.

Why Feed Trace Mineral with Salt?
There are seven trace minerals essential in livestock feed: iron, copper, zinc, manganese, cobalt, iodine, and selenium. Livestock have a natural appetite for salt, but not for trace minerals. This makes salt an ideal medium to deliver these vital minerals.

Other Uses
Livestock will actively seek salt, so placing salt feeders or blocks in areas of unutilized pasture, away from areas where livestock congregate, will improve pasture utilization.

Salt can also aid in regulating the intake of protein and high energy feeds. By adding 5 to 20% salt in rations, livestock will eat only until their salt requirements is satisfied. Using salt in this way ensures desired and uniform consumption of costly supplements among a group of animals.

How Much Should I Feed?
Each of the Champions Choice® products can be fed on a free choice basis to livestock, provided there is an adequate supply of water available at all times. The amount of salt and trace minerals required by livestock will be affected by many factors including termperature, humidity, lactation, etc. So if you want to control the addition of salt to the animals diet, you should consult a veternarian or animal nutritionist. As a guide, most live-stock require approximately 0.5% to 1.0% salt in a complete feed ration (on a dryer matter basis).
